Nutrition Strategy

“At Metro Canteens we believe our customers should be able to make choices so we provide very healthy menu items, made on site using fresh ingredients that are available every day for our customers to choose from”.

Healthy items we provide include:

  • Fresh sandwiches and roles with wholegrain and white breads (made daily on site)
  • Low fat yoghurts
  • Breakfast cereals
  • Whole fresh fruit in season (sold at below cost)
  • Fresh fruit salad
  • Low fat flavoured milks
  • Fresh fruit juices
  • Freshly made low fat pasta dishes
  • Assorted salad packs with or without lean meats

We follow these guidelines:

  • No butter or margarine on sandwiches unless requested
  • No added salt during the cooking process
  • Low fat cheeses are used
  • Low fat salad dressings and mayonnaise are used
  • Dim Sims are steamed and not fried
  • No carbonated drinks or confectionary sold prior to 9am
  • All homemade items are promoted aggressively
  • Low sugar (lite) drinks are given optimum placement in fridges
  • Continuing our desire to reduce caffeine based drink sales (already down from 52% to 30%)
